Event : Debutante Launch

The Debutante aims to engender a new movement of feminist-surrealism. It is a non-for-profit publication with funds directed to the next issue. Both co-editors have full time jobs elsewhere. A collaborative project originally described as "the love monster of two women". Since founding co-editors, Rachel Ashenden and Molly Gilroy, launched issue 01 in January 2020.

It’s easy to espouse feminist rhetoric and adopt surrealist motifs but if words and actions don’t align it’s really just empty platitudes… Photos are from The Debutante launch party way back before the pandemic and all that other stuff.

Debutante is part of a wider movement to challenge the liminal status of women surrealists, and explore their continued relevance in contemporary art today.
